MUSIC AT ST. MATTHEW’S
Music is an integral part of our worship at St. Matthew’s Church, continuing in the musically rich tradition of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. From the church’s very beginning, music has been used to enhance worship and aid us in our prayers and praise to God. St. Augustine said, “The one who sings, prays twice.” At St. Matthew’s, led by the choir, we use hymns, canticles, psalms, anthems, and instrumental music in our worship throughout the program year.

The Choir of St. Matthew’s
Our choir plays a leading role in worship through the singing of service music and choral anthems. It is made up of approximately 30 extremely dedicated and hard-working volunteer and professional adult singers who rehearse during the week and sing each Sunday during the program year at the 10:30 AM Holy Eucharist, occasional Choral Evensongs, special appointed services, and an annual oratorio on Good Friday.
Haydn by the Lake
Haydn by the Lake, St. Matthew’s ensemble-in-residence, performs chamber music of the Classical and Baroque eras on period instruments. The principal players are James Janssen, fortepianist/harpsichordist/artistic director; Pasquale Laurino, violin; and Laura Handler, cello. Concerts are held on Sunday afternoons in St. Matthew’s Church. For more information, join Haydn by the Lake’s fan page on Facebook or email to the address above.
The Bell Choir and Recorder Consort
The Bell Choir and Recorder Consort rehearse each week during the program year and offer occasional preludes for the 10:30 AM Holy Eucharist and special music before the traditional Christmas Eve “Midnight” Eucharist.
Weddings and Funerals
Our organist is available to play for weddings and funerals at St. Matthew’s Church. The choir and/or soloists may also be booked. Please inquire in the parish office.
